We’re excited to confirm that our Expression of Interest for Swanage and the Isle of Purbeck to become the UK Town of Culture 2028 has now been submitted - a major milestone and a testament to the creativity, collaboration and ambition we’ve seen across Purbeck.
The bid celebrates what makes this place so special: a rich mix of landscape, heritage and culture, alongside a vibrant network of festivals, organisations, creatives and communities. It sets out a bold vision for how culture can bring people together, support the local economy and create lasting opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
This is just the beginning. Whatever the outcome, this process has already sparked new connections and conversations - and we’re committed to building on that momentum to shape the future of culture in Purbeck together. We’ll be sharing further opportunities to get involved in the coming months and if we are shortlisted, there will be even more opportunities to help shape ideas and bring the vision to life too.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined our February community visioning workshop. It was inspiring to see so many people come together to share ideas, perspectives and ambitions for culture in Purbeck. The energy in the room was fantastic, and your contributions have directly shaped the direction of the bid and our work going forward - ensuring it reflects the voices and aspirations of the community.
We’re especially excited to see how the From Stone to Sea theme continues to develop - we’ll be in touch soon with further opportunities to get involved.
You may already have seen some of the growing momentum around the bid - including coverage in Swanage News and a recent interview with our Chair, Debbie Evans, on BBC Radio Solent - helping to shine a spotlight on Purbeck’s cultural offer.

We’ve been incredibly encouraged by the strength and breadth of support from across the community and beyond.
From local festivals and cultural organisations to businesses, local groups and residents, it’s clear there is a shared belief in the power of culture to shape Purbeck’s future. This growing chorus of support - which you can see across our social media - really reflects the pride people feel in this place and reinforces the ambition of our bid as we move forward.
We’re also delighted to have the support of Dorset MPs Vikki Slade MP and Lloyd Hatton MP who have shared letters of support for the bid.
